Rates For Us Postage
The most common manner for sending mail is using a purchased US postage stamp. US postage stamps can be purchased individually, in a book, or in a large roll. The current US postage rate for one stamp is 39 cents, a recent increase over the 37 cent price. US postage must be paid, and in the correct amount for the material being sent, for the item to be delivered. If the postage is missing or is insufficient, there is the opportunity for the receiver of the correspondence to pay for the entire postage or the difference. However, if the receiver refuses to pay, the piece of mail will be returned to the original sender, noting the reasoning for the inability to complete the delivery.
Of course, there are several other ways to send mail, which do not involve the regular one stamp and send method. Each of these methods may be necessary for a particular piece of correspondence, if it is pertinent to be sure that it will reach the recipient. And, as they require more effort than delivering regular mail, they cost more.
One item, which actually does not increase in price, is the sending of a postcard. In fact, regular size postcards (less than 6 inches long and 4 ¼ inches high) only cost 24 cents to send. Larger postcards, above the size allowed for regular, cost the regular 39 cents to send.
The sending of a regular letter, in any other manner than regular first-class mail (which usually averages 2-3 days for delivery), increases the price to send the letter. Priority mail, which promises 2 days to deliver, will cost about 4 dollars for a regular size envelope. Express mail, which can be delivered overnight, will run about 14 dollars.
How about sending a package? The US postage rate for packages will vary according to the size and weight of the package. The price also varies according to how quickly you need the package delivered. For standard size packages, 3-day delivery will run at an average of 2.50. For priority mail, delivery in 2 days, the price remains at 4 dollars. For express delivery, overnight, the cost will be about 19 dollars.
For larger packages, the price of US postage increases. A 3-day delivery can now cost up to roughly 11 dollars. Priority mail, 2-day delivery, is now about 17 dollars, however, express mail, delivered overnight, remains about 19 dollars.
